Free Quran Disposal in Singapore: The Masjid Drop-Off

You searched for free Quran disposal in Singapore. Here is the straight answer.

Fully free Quran disposal is rare in Singapore. It exists, but only sometimes, and only for small amounts. Most of the time, someone has to collect the materials, transport them, and destroy them properly. That costs money.

ShredRite is a Muslim-owned Singapore service. We are not free. But we do have one route with no booking fee at all, and we have never said so plainly before. So this page points you to the genuinely free options first, even when they are not us. Then it explains our no-booking-fee drop-off honestly, including the part you still pay.

The honest summary. Our masjid drop-off has a booking fee of $0. You still pay by weight: $5.50 per kg for paper and books, $7 per kg for frames and non-paper. It is not a free service. It is a service with no booking fee. If you want truly free, read the next section first.

What is actually free in Singapore

Some mosques run free collection drives for old Qurans and religious books. They are a real blessing, and we would rather you use one than pay us.

Here is how to find one. Call your mosque office and ask if a collection drive is coming up. Ask your madrasah too. If a drive is running soon and your load is small, take it. It costs you nothing.

The limits are real, though:

  • They are occasional. Drives are announced now and then, not run as a standing service. You may wait months, and the boxes stay under your stairs.
  • They take small quantities. A bag or two is usually fine. Twenty kilograms from a late parent's home is often too much for a mosque store room.
  • They may not take everything. Many drives accept books and papers only. Framed ayat, sejadah and telekung printed with verses, cassettes and VCDs are often turned away.
  • You carry it yourself. You pack it, lift it, and bring it down.

If a free drive fits your situation, use it with our blessing. If not, keep reading.

Our masjid drop-off: no booking fee

Once a month, you can bring your materials to us at the masjid instead of us coming to you. There is no booking fee for this. Not reduced. None at all.

  • Where: in front of the customer service office at Masjid Abdul Aleem Siddique, 90 Lorong K, Telok Kurau, Singapore 425723.
  • When: the last Saturday of every month, 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
  • Booking fee: $0.
  • What you pay: only what the scale shows. $5.50 per kg for paper and books, $7 per kg for frames and non-paper.

We weigh everything on our digital platform scale in front of you at the drop-off. You see the exact weight and cost before anything leaves your hands.

Masjid Abdul Aleem Siddique also receives $2.50 for every kilogram dropped off. That is more per kilogram than a doorstep booking sends. So the drop-off gives back the most per kilo. Full details are on our booking and drop-off page.

What your drop-off actually costs

No booking fee on any of these. The whole bill is the weight.

Your materials The working Total
5kg of books and papers (5 x $5.50) + $0 fee $27.50
10kg of books and papers (10 x $5.50) + $0 fee $55
20kg of books and papers (20 x $5.50) + $0 fee $110

A filled shopping bag of books is roughly 5kg, so count your bags and you already know your total. Full rates, including mixed loads with frames, are on our Quran disposal price page.

What to bring

Bring any of this: Quran and mushaf, kitab, hadith books, madrasah textbooks and workbooks, Yasin books, doa and tahlil booklets, khutbah notes, Islamic worksheets and notes, Islamic calendars with ayat, framed ayat and calligraphy in wooden or metallic frames, Islamic ornaments, plaques and hanging decor, tasbih and keepsakes, wedding and kenduri cards with Bismillah, newspaper clippings with Quranic text, sejadah and telekung printed with verses, banners and posters with ayat, cassettes and VCDs of Quran recitation, and general books, magazines and papers.

One exception. We do not handle talismans, wafaq, or items tied to spiritual practices. Please leave those out.

What happens after you hand it over

We do not shred at the drop-off point. Your materials travel with us to our facility at 66 Tannery Lane, Sindo Building. There we micro-shred everything to the DIN 66399 P-5 standard. Particles come out under 30 square millimetres. Nothing is readable, and nothing can be put back together. For the ruling behind that condition, see the MUIS fatwa on shredding, explained.

For the method step by step, see our guide to Quran disposal in Singapore.

If you cannot make the last Saturday

Some months you are working, travelling, or simply cannot carry twenty kilograms of books across the island. Then the doorstep route makes more sense, and we come to you.

  • North and West: Mondays and Fridays.
  • East and Central: Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Time slots: morning, 9am to 12pm, or afternoon, 12pm to 4pm.

The booking fee is $20, or $10 with code ALEEM10. Per-kg rates stay the same. You book over WhatsApp and pay nothing upfront. We weigh everything at your door, in front of you, before it leaves.

Common questions

Is Quran disposal free in Singapore?

Rarely, and only in specific cases. Some mosques run occasional free collection drives for small amounts of books. Outside of those, expect to pay. Our masjid drop-off has no booking fee at all, but you still pay by weight at $5.50 per kg for paper and books and $7 per kg for frames and non-paper.

Do mosques take old Qurans for free?

Some do, through occasional collection drives. Call your own mosque office and ask if one is coming up. If a drive is running and your load is small, take it. It costs nothing. Just check whether they accept frames, sejadah or cassettes, because many drives take books and papers only.

What does the ShredRite drop-off cost?

The booking fee is $0. You pay only for weight: $5.50 per kg for paper and books, $7 per kg for frames and non-paper. So 5kg of books is $27.50, 10kg is $55, and 20kg is $110. Everything is weighed in front of you at the drop-off.

When is the drop-off?

The last Saturday of every month, 2:00pm to 5:00pm. There is no other drop-off window, so if you miss it, the next one is a month away, or you can book a doorstep collection instead.

Where is the masjid?

Masjid Abdul Aleem Siddique, 90 Lorong K, Telok Kurau, Singapore 425723. Come to the front of the customer service office. This is the only drop-off point we have. Please do not bring materials to our Tannery Lane facility, as it is not open to the public.

Can I drop off any quantity?

Yes. There is no minimum and no maximum. Bring one Quran or bring ten boxes. The only real limit is what you can carry. If it is heavy, the doorstep collection exists for exactly that reason.

What if I miss the last Saturday?

You can wait for next month, or book a doorstep collection. North and West are Mondays and Fridays. East and Central are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Slots are morning, 9am to 12pm, or afternoon, 12pm to 4pm. The fee is $10 with code ALEEM10.

Is shredding a Quran halal?

Scholars accept several methods for retiring a mushaf that can no longer be used, and the shared principle is that the text must no longer be readable and must not be treated with disrespect. Micro-shredding to DIN 66399 P-5 achieves that completely. If you have a specific concern, please ask your own ustaz or the mosque office. We are glad when people check.

Ready when you are

If a free mosque drive suits you, take it, Alhamdulillah. If you need the method named and the weight shown, we are here. For the drop-off, just come on the last Saturday between 2pm and 5pm. Nothing to arrange.
